During the month of February, St. Mary’s Community Church continued it work in the vineyard of the Lord, serving the community as well as tending its flock.
During the first week of February, St. Mary’s hosted the Keystone Challenge Fund, Inc. Homeownership Education Program, which was a free program to everyone interested in owning a home and the process involved in obtaining a mortgage and the credit process.
On the 19th of the month, St. Mary’s held it Black History Month program by presenting a dramatization organized and directed by Sarah Governor. Participants included Mrs. Governor, along with Pastor Timothy Knighten, Nancy Richardson, Bettye Goodwine, Earl Knighten, Dorothy Bradley, Fannie Crumbley, First Lady Pamela Knighten, Luke Governor, Hazel Green, Cathy Coston, Sonny Traylor, and Julie Knighten.
On Friday night of the previous week, St. Mary’s own Sarah Governor was presented the Lifetime Achievement Award at the Annual Black Heritage Banquet held by the Plant City Black Heritage Celebration, Inc., with Commissioner Mary Thomas-Mathis as the Mistress of Ceremony and formal Tampa Bay Buccaneer Frank Murphy the keynote speaker.
During February, SMCC also hosted the Lincoln Park Neighborhood Meeting, sponsored by the City of Plant City and the Improvement League of Plant City where, the president, William Thomas, of the Improvement League and officials of the City of Plant City, including Mike Herr (City Manager), Bill McDaniel (Assistant City Manager), Mark Hudson (Planning Director), Karen Collins (Community Services Director), Michael Schenk (City Engineer), and others met with residences of the Lincoln Park area to present information and discuss revitalizations efforts in the area.
Don’t forget, that as a service to our community and a component of our Church Outreach, we serve free breakfast every Sunday at 8:00 am, and free lunch every Wednesday at 11:00 am.
